Since 1965 the Great Southern Region of Western Australia has been successful with growing cool climate table wines in Western Australia. This year show the first vintage of the cool climate wine in Western Australia.

The mild climate, the restfulness, the exquisitely beautiful natural environment, the friendliness of the people may also draw a few venturing to the South Coast. However, the wine makes Denmark a popular tourist destination all year round. Denmark's wineries are as diverse as the natural surroundings. Elegant, pleasing, refreshing. From West Cape Howe to the edge of the Walpole Wilderness Area, this cool climate is the largest cool climate wine region in Western Australia as well as the oldest cool climate wine region in Australia.

Denmark's cool climate wine varieties are world class, award winning wines.

Located along the south coast of Western Australia, in the Great Southern Region, Denmark is considerably cooler than other Western Australian wine regions and is known for Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Shiraz.

Denmark grape growers discovered the value of the rich karri loam for their vineyards - lifting Denmark to a premier position in Cool Climate wine growing. The area has fast became a wine region of major importance. Riesling and Chardonnay were the first grapes grown on Denmark soil, soon followed by other varieties. We have included a general outline of the wine varieties grown in the Denmark Region.
